THE CHALLENGE: Limited Access

The world of frontier cross-cultural missions is changing. Operating officially as a missionary in many nations belonging to the 10/40 window is simply not an option.  If we are to continue to make it our "ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named" (Romans 15:20), then we need to help church planters find creative means for gaining access into these countries.

OUR RESPONSE: Business as Mission

Over the past few years, missionaries have found that business is one of the few means by which governments will let foreigners come and stay in their countries. In light of this, we've been developing replicable business concepts and strategies that can be operated efficiently by church planters, making sure the businesses support church planting business.

A Key Strategy: Business Directors

Legitimacy and sustainability are key goals for any of these overseas businesses. As we've considered the situation, we argue that the most strategic move for the church planting team at this point in time is to recruit business directors.

This is not a new concept. Already there are Business Directors in the 10/40 window who provide significant support to their teams through their business jobs. They bring the wealth of their experience and they are both "a catalyst and a collaborator" with the team--providing leadership for the business while supporting the overarching goal of planting churches.
